MTENDERE residents have complained over the delay in the construction of a police station and the expansion of the clinic in the area.
The residents said they were living in fear following the temporal closure of Mtendere police post to facilitate rehabilitation which has contributed to a rise in crime.
They also expressed concern over the delay in the rehabilitation of the police station.
Mr Peter Mkambo of “D” section said since the closure of the police post, crime has increased and thugs have taken advantage of the situation.
“There is need for concerted efforts to address the rising cases of crime in our compound, and we are worried over the delay in commencement of the rehabilitation of the police station,’’ Mr Mkambo said.
Another resident Mutale Chuma said she was concerned because there was no sign of works on the police post which was closed to facilitate rehabilitation.
She also suspected that criminals that had invaded the area were coming from nearby compounds and were using the Chainama Golf Course as a hideout.
The residents have since appealed to the Police Command to start the construction of a new police station or find other immediate measures to address the crime levels in the area.
Meanwhile, expectant mothers receiving ante-natal services from Mtendere clinic have appealed to the contractor to expedite works of building a maternity wing as mothers were facing challenges in acquiring the service.
They said lack of a maternity wig at the clinic was making their movement difficult especially when mothers were in labour while others could not afford taxi charges to Levy Mwanawasa General Hospital.
