SENIOR Chief Mujimanzovu of the Kaonde speaking people in Mushindamo district has applauded Government for introducing social cash transfer in his chiefdom.
The traditional leader said the introduction of the programme was a welcome move because it will reduce poverty levels among the vulnerable people.
He said the people in his chiefdom have never benefited from such programmes despite the scheme being in existence for a long time.
“My people have just been hearing about this programme. So I am very happy that now it has been introduced here in my chiefdom and the whole Mushindamo district,” he said.
The traditional leader was speaking when Mushindamo district commissioner Benson Ngambo paid a courtesy call him at his palace.
And Mr Ngambo told the traditional leader that Government had put in place various programmes aimed at improving the standard of living of the people not only in Mushindamo but across Zambia.
He said apart from the social cash transfer that was being introduced in the district for the first time, there was also women and youth empowerment.
“So, our people should take advantage of these programmes because they are meant for them,’’ he said.
The district commissioner also said the district administration would soon start carrying out mobile registration exercise so that people who did not have national registration cards could obtain the documents.
