THE Tonse Alliance has dismissed reports suggesting that Tasila Lungu has rejected her appointment as national youth chairperson, describing the claims as unverified and based on social media speculation.
Tonse Alliance spokesperson Dr. Lawrence Mwelwa said senior Tonse Alliance leadership has already engaged Ms Lungu on the matter, both virtually and physically, before her appointment, and members have been urged to refrain from speculation while awaiting her official position.
He said the alliance had noted media reports and online commentary alleging that Ms Lungu had declined the appointment but clarified that none of the media houses carrying the story had confirmed the information directly with her.
“The Tonse Alliance wishes to clarify that none of the media houses carrying this claim has confirmed the information directly with Tasila Lungu,” Dr Mwelwa said.
He explained that several media institutions had instead contacted his office for confirmation and later admitted that they had failed to reach Ms Lungu, opting to rely on social media narratives which were neither authoritative nor reliable.
Dr. Mwelwa also noted that Ms Lungu maintains an official Facebook page on which she has not issued any statement rejecting the appointment.
He added that should Ms Lungu change her position after accepting the appointment, she would formally communicate with Tonse Alliance leadership whom she engaged prior to her appointment.
He also cautioned against individuals purporting to speak on Ms Lungu’s behalf, stressing that no one has been authorised to do so.
