… as its media director Mark Simuuwe says no individual or group should be considered above the law

THE United Party for National Development (UPND) has emphasised that the law must be applied equally to all citizens and not only to ordinary or underprivileged people.
Speaking on National Pulse programme aired on Millennium TV yesterday, UPND media director Mark Simuuwe said the rule of law requires fairness and consistency, regardless of a person’s social, political, or economic status.
Mr. Simuuwe said creating an environment where only ordinary or disadvantaged citizens are subjected to the law while others appear immune undermines justice and public confidence in institutions.
He stressed that the country’s legal system must function without favour, fear, or discrimination, noting that equal application of the law is a cornerstone of democracy and good governance.
Mr. Simuuwe added that no individual or group should be considered above the law and that accountability must apply to everyone equally to promote fairness, unity and national development.
He said the UPND remains committed to upholding the rule of law and strengthening institutions so that justice is administered impartially for the benefit of all Zambians.
Mr. Simuuwe also noted that selective application of the law breeds resentment and erodes public trust in governance systems, warning that such practices can weaken national cohesion and undermine the fight against corruption.
He reiterated that the UPND-led government is determined to ensure that institutions operate independently and professionally, guided strictly by the Constitution and the rule of law to build a just and accountable society.
