NKANA Golf Club amateur Michael Chuma has won the boys under 21 category and finished second overall of the Faldo Junior Tour in Dubai.
Chuma’s resilience and ability to recover after setbacks has highlighted his growing maturity as a player.
Chuma opened the tournament with an impressive first round of 3-under-par, showing great control and confidence.
But the second round presented some challenges after two balls found the water, which cost him a few shots and brought him back to 1-under overall.
He put up a spirited fight yesterday to score 10 under par on the final day.
Chuma was tied 12th when he teed off.
Being the only Zambian competing in the season-ending tournament for the Faldo Junior Tour, makes his performance even more inspiring.
The Faldo Junior Tour is a highly competitive junior championship with some of the best junior golfers around.
The Faldo Junior Tour is a 54-hole World Amateur Golf Ranking rated events, which offers participants a great opportunity to establish themselves as an elite junior golfer.
Events are eligible for the Scratch Players World Amateur Rankin (SPWAR) and European Golf Rankings (EGR) rankings.
“This is a major tournament with significant opportunities at stake – the champion earns invitations into DP World Tour or PGA Tour events.
For him, this is not only a chance to showcase his talent but also a potential gateway to the next level of world golf,” Morton Muwowo, one of Chuma’s tutors at Nkana Golf Club said.
