WITH about 290 days remaining before the 2026 general elections, some aspiring candidates have made their intentions known at all levels of the polls. One of such aspirants is Edward Chipasula who is eyeing Mwembeshi ward under Matero constituency. Mr. Chipasula, a retired biomedical science technician, wants to take some time off his pharmacy and embark on a political journey kicking off from the least point in political representation of being a councilor. Born to a criminal investigation police officer in Ndola’s Peter Singogo police camp, Mr. Chipasula owes his success in the medical field to his biomedical science technician background which he acquired after he completed his form V at Chifubu Secondary School 45 years ago after being transfered from Masala Secondary School. “I was at Masala Secondary School from form I to form IV. Around second term my father’s car broke down and I had challenges with transport. I moved to Chifubu Secondary School where I completed form V in 1980 and later I went for Zambia National Service (ZNS) training,” says a soft spoken Mr. Chipasula. Upon completing the discipline and hard work teaching ZNS training, Mr. Chipasula decided to go medical by enrolling for his first training as a biomedical science technician and obtained a certificate. This feat marked the starting point of his long journey in his career as he enrolled at Evelyn Home College to pursue a diploma in the same field after having worked for a few years. Armed with and buoyed by this accomplishment, Mr. Chipasula went further and studied a bachelor’s degree in biomedical science at the University of Zambia. As if this was not enough, he pursued a master’s degree from Atlanta International University through online. Currently he is in his final year as a law student at the Zambia Open University. Driven by ambition, hard work and success in the medical field, Mr. Chipasula now wants to ascend the political ladder by taking a first step at the lowest point of local government level. However, his main focus is that of becoming Matero member of Parliament one day. “For now I have not yet decided on which political party to stand but I have to look at the Constitution of a political party that will be willing to adopt me. For now I am just an independent,” he says. He says his inspiration to vie for political comes from his desire to promote good health for the people under sane environment not littered with indiscriminate waste disposal. He further says his desire is to ensure more people in the ward have access to alternative sources of energy, a good road network and tight security to curb the rising numbers of junkies. A happily married man and father of four including media practitioner Gwen, Mr. Chipasula boasts of five grandchildren. A devoted Christian, Mr. Chipasula is dedicated member of the United Church of Zambia Chunga congregation where he is an elder and has previously served as congregation secretary and men Christian fellowship (MCF) secretary. In his spare time, the Mwembeshi ward aspirant says he likes jogging as opposed to playing football which he enjoyed but can no longer do so because “I have problems with my legs and at my advanced age, it takes time to heal when you get a fracture.” He pays glowing tribute to his lecturers at Zambia Open University: a Mr. Mulenga who taught him constitutional and retired Judge Haabenzu who lectured him in criminal law. His other tribute is to incumbent Mwembeshi ward councilor Chrispin Kabole for working hard under difficult circumstances.
