THE Judiciary has issued a warning to the public after reports emerged of an imposter pretending to be Chief Justice Mumba Malila, offering appointments, favours, or assistance in exchange for money or personal information.
In a statement released yesterday, the Judiciary said the fraudulent individual or group is contacting unsuspecting people through online and telephonic platforms, claiming to act on behalf of the Chief Justice.
“The Judiciary categorically distances itself from such activities,” the statement read, stating that Dr Justice Malila and other Judicial Officers do not conduct official business through informal or personal communication channels. All official correspondence is issued only through verified Judiciary platforms.
The statement identified some of the phone numbers reportedly used in the scam, including +234 704 662 2902 and +260 967 785 443, and urged the public not to engage with or respond to the impostors.
Suspicious communications should be reported to the Zambia Police Service Cybercrime Unit or the nearest police station.
The Judiciary assured the public that the matter is under active investigation and that authorities are working closely with law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute the perpetrators.
