PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema yesterday hosted the Litunga, the King of the Lozi people of Western Province and Paramount Chief Mpenzeni of the Ngoni people of Eastern Province and discussed a range of issues, including cultural identity and strengthening collaboration between government and the traditional leadership.
President Hichilema disclosed on his facebook page yesterday that he and the Litunga and Paramount Chief Mpezeni conferred on how best government and the traditional leadership could collaborate for the betterment of citizens.President Hichilema said among the issues he discussed with the two traditional leaders also included economic and social development of the country.
The meeting between President Hichilema, the Litunga and the Ngwenyama was a rare gathering of tradition and statecraft meant to create collaboration between government and the traditional leadership.
President Hichilema welcomed two of Zambia’ revered traditional leaders, His Majesty the Litunga, Lubosi Imwiko II, and His Majesty Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV, to State House.
The meeting brought together the King of the Lozi people and the Ngoni people in what President Hichilema described as a moment of dialogue aimed at blending heritage with national development.
According to President Hichilema, the talks centred on safeguarding Zambia’s cultural identity, advancing economic and social development, and strengthening collaboration between government and traditional leadership.
“We were deeply honoured to host His Majesty the Litunga, Lubosi Imwiko II, and His Majesty Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV at State House today. Our discussions centred on preserving our rich cultural heritage, advancing the economic and social development of our people, and strengthening the spirit of dialogue and collaboration between Government and Traditional Leadership on matters that affect our communities,” President Hichilema said.
He said that chiefs were serving as a bridge between Government and the people, ensuring that policies responded to community needs.
“We hold our Traditional Leaders in the highest esteem, as custodians of our culture and vital partners in development. Their role in bridging the people and Government underscores our shared responsibility to serve the same communities with unity, respect, and dedication,” the head of State said.
