…says all prominent and ordinary Zambians who were non-partisan and campaigned for President Hichilema are ashamed of the UPND government, regret having been duped into supporting Mr Hichilema in opposition

THOSE of the many Zambians who supported and voted for President Hakainde Hichilema are deeply sorry and do apologise for their action because their good intention of changing government for a better Zambia have been betrayed by a regime that has turned out to be an enemy to the country’s constitutional democracy and good governance, Brebner Changala has said.
“I want to say that I am sincerely sorry to my fellow Zambians for supporting and voting for President Hichilema, who has turned out to be what we never thought he would be.
Mr Changala, a civil rights and political activist has charged that Zambians who voted for the United Party for National Development (UPND) in 2021 are now regretting their decision because of how President Hichilema has turned out to be, an authoritarian leader who has worked hard to kill democracy.
In an interview yesterday, Mr. Changala said many citizens, including himself, as well as many prominent citizens who played a critical role in supporting President Hichilema’s rise to power, have been left disappointed and were walking in shame for having delivered Zambians to purgatory instead paradise.
“I was one of the people, among many ordinary and prominent citizens, who massively supported President Hakainde Hichilema because we believed in the change he promised,” he said. “But today, I must confess that we are regretting that decision because what we were promised is far from what we are seeing on the ground.”
Mr Changala said prominent Zambians who campaigned and supported President Hichilema were now moving in shame with heads down because despite their good intentions, President Hichilema had turned out to be the worst they ever imagined to preside of the affairs of the country.
He explained that the economic hardships, rising cost of living and unmet promises have made people question whether they made the right choice in 2021.
