Lumwana-Sandstone consortium working on the 88 kilometer Lumwana-west Kambimba border road project says the company is committed to contributing positively to the community through employment creation for the local people.
Project Manager Charles Kakoma said since the project started in November,2024 more than 200 local people have been employed and currently has 74 both skilled and unskilled local employees working on the site.
Mr Kakoma said this during the Lubanji Lwa Nzambi traditional ceremony held in Kakoma Chiefdom yesterday.
“One of the works that was being done on the site by the local employees was bush clearing along the road which started from Lumwana west to Kambimba border.We also have two female employees working under the quality control department this is aimed at imparting skills in local employees and as part of our empowerment programme,”he said.
Mr Kakoma disclosed that owners of the 86 field land that was sitting along the road project have all received their full compensation payment for loss of land. He expressed gratitude to Chief Kakoma and his people for the support and cooperation towards the implementation of the project.
Mr Kakoma said the project signifies the commitment to improving local access in enhancing public service and fostering economic growth.
He said the company understands the importance of the project for the well-being and prosperity of the local community and assured that they will strive to execute the project with high standards of quality and efficiency.
Speaking during the same event, North-Western Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Luckson Mulumbi said the government is committed to the developmental agenda of the region.
He cited some of the projects that the government is implementing in Kakoma chiefdom as the construction of the Lumwana west Kambimba border road, classroom blocks and water reticulation systems.
“We have three roads that are coming up here in Northwestern Province ,the Solwezi Kipushi border road,the Mutanda Kasempa Kaoma road and also the Lumwana west Kambimba border road,” he said.
Mr Mulumbi said the government is also committed to improving the condition of the Mutanda- Mwinilunga road, assuring that the process of awarding a contractor is underway.
And Chief Kakoma through his representative Roy Kalamba,thanked the government for the construction of the Lumwana west Kambimba border road to international standards which will be accompanied by a modern border post and power connectivity and other infrastructure such as schools and health facilities.
“This road project will connect Zambia and Congo DR eventually promoting trade between the two countries and improve the social and economic status of the people not only in the chiefdom but the country as a whole” he said.
Chief Kakoma said his Chiefdom was almost cut off from the rest of the country before the project commenced under the new dawn administration within its few years of being in power. ZANIS
The 88 kilometer Lumwana west Kambimba border road will link Zambia to Lualaba Province in Congo DR.
In September, 2023 government signed a concession agreement between the Road Development Agency and Sandstone Consortium to construct the road to international standard at an estimated cost of US$130 million.
