Dear Editor,
WHILE it is good that Zambia has recorded a bumper maize harvest from its 2024/25 farming season, it is equally important to take great care of the crop.
After the lessons from El Nino and careless disposal of reserve maize stored by the PF government by UPND, we should think twice this time round.
The Food Reserve Authority should make sure that not even a single grain of our precious maize goes to waste.
Reports of poor care or misuse should be quickly dealt with and culprits brought to book.
We should also not forget Washington’s recent concerns over the maize we were supposed to buy from Tanzania using its money.
Government should also ensure adequate transport is allocated to maize transportation to secure storage facilities.
Smuggling of our maize too through our porous borders should be stopped once and for all.
Remember a hungry nation is an angry nation.
MALINGOSE CHOWA,
Ndola.
