THE Copper Queens have intensified preparations ahead of two crucial international friendly matches as part of their build-up to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Zambia will face reigning African champions South Africa on May 31 and take on Botswana on June 3, with both matches scheduled to be played in South Africa.
The Copper Queens are in Group A at WAFCON alongside hosts Morocco, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Midfielder Maweta Chilenga said the team’s spirit is high. “Morale in camp is very good,” she said. “The friendlies will sharpen us for WAFCON.”
She added that players are embracing the challenge. “Competition is tough, but we’re learning a lot from the senior players.”
Defender Esther Siamfuko said the friendlies are key. “These games will give us good experience,” she said. “We’re working hard on our tactics.”
She encouraged the new faces in camp. “They must show they belong here,” she said.
Midfielder Natasha Nanyangwe said training has been intense. “Everyone is giving 100 percent,” she said. She noted that the U-17 girls’ recent success is inspiring. “It’s motivating us to also make Zambia proud,” she said.
