A CIVIL Society Organisation (CSO) involved in democracy and human rights is concerned that the UPND government has omitted or failed to include the referendum in its road map of amending the Constitution.
Democratic Governance and Human Rights Advocates (DEGHA) national coordinator Gerald Mutelo has since called upon the government to explain the rationale behind the omission and to consider including these critical rights in the constitutional amendment road map
Mr Mutelo said it was a glaring omission in the proposed amendment of the republican constitution for the government to fail to include the referendum in order to address the economic, social and cultural rights, which were currently absent from the constitution
He said his organisation was emphasising the need for a participatory approach where all stakeholders would engage in meaningful and respectful dialogue, which would include citizens, civil society organizations, parliamentarians, the church, traditional leaders, legal minds, and ordinary citizens, men, women and youths
