MILES Sampa has said Zambia’s Sixth President Edgar Lungu shall remain the father of the Patriotic Front (PF) and has pledged that he would soon be consulting with the former head of State and shall endevour to listen to his advice.
And Raphael Nakacinda, the PF secretary general has said the former ruling party is ready to make Mr Sampa a hero if he is going to work and restore the former ruling party to its original status.
Yesterday the High Court reversed a previous decision that blocked Mr Sampa’s dismissal and of Morgan Ngona as secretary general of the PF party. The court also dismissed Robert Chabinga’s application to join the case or indeed replace Mr Sampa as the defendant, citing lack of sufficient interest in the matter.
And speaking after the ruling, Mr Sampa said for over 15 years he had been good and kind to people like Mr Ng’ona but had instead stabbed in the back.
Mr Sampa said he was happy that the party was back in the hands of the people and that he would now endevour to consult with and listen to the advice of former President Lungu to ensure that the PF remained in the hands of the people for whom it was founded by late President Michael Sata.
Mr Sampa said he will seek guidance for the way forward for the good of the people and of the party.
“I am grateful to the judiciary for being impartial. It is a very solid ruling. The ruling is a 21-page document and is very thorough, very objective,” Mr Sampa said.
And Mr Nakacinda said the truth was that the PF was a people’s movement and that those opposed to it risked being crushed.
“There is no individual who can hijack the PF because it is a political formation that is being supported and promoted by the will of the people. Mr Sata was a prolific political leader who did not form the PF on technicalities but created an institution that was a political movement and if any leader decides to go against the tide, that leader risk being crushed,” Mr Nakacinda said.
Mr Nakacinda, who is also the Tonse Alliance secretary general said Mr Sampa was a cleaver man who had realized that the PF could easily crush him if he decided to go against the tide of the movement.
“The only thing Mr Sampa can do is succumb and submit himself to the movement. The PF is the strongest opposition political party with over 50 MPs. So, what we need is to focus on the future. If Mr Sampa is a patriotic and nationalistic citizen and wants to hamonise the PF, he is welcome. In democracy, we need a strong opposition and the PF is a strong opposition and the mingalato of President Hakainde Hichilema to annihilate the party will not succeed,” Mr Nakacinda said.
