THE Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) has disclosed that the Zambian government is owing contractors more than K500 million in unpaid contractual and consultancy fees, resulting into contractors losing their properties to banks and bailiffs while their workers have for many months remained without pay.
Wesley Kaluba, the president of the Engineering Institute of Zambia has expressed grave concern over the government’s failure to settle outstanding payments, with contractors waiting from six to twelve months for before they could receive payment.
“A number of our members are in the business of providing employment by serving as contractors or consultancy to government projects.
