THE Zambia national men’s football team has landed in Monrovia, Liberia, ahead of their crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sierra Leone tomorrow.
The match comes after the Chipolopolo’s impressive 1-0 victory over defending chamions Ivory Coast at home, securing their spot at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Zambia’s qualification was confirmed after their victory in the exciting fixture at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, which saw them top Group G with 10 points, a single point ahead of second-placed Ivory Coast.
Meanwhile, Sierra Leone, who drew 1-1 with Chad in their previous fixture, are in third place with five points. Chad sits at the bottom of the group with just three points.
The Chipolopolo squad, led by coach Avram Grant, arrived in the Liberian capital at 06:08 hours, yesterday, aboard a chartered flight and has set up base at the Colony Hotel.
With Zambia already qualified for the 2025 tournament alongside Ivory Coast, tomorrow’s tie will serve as an important step in cementing their dominance in the group.
The other match in Group G will see Chad face off against Ivory Coast, with Chad still holding hopes of finishing higher in the group.
