THE Southern African Development Community (SADC) has praised Zambia for playing a critical role in maintaining peace and security in the region under President Hakainde Hichilema.

Elias Magosi, the SADC Executive Secretary has since applauded President Hichilema’s leadership and guidance as the Chairperson of the Organ, on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, by emphasising his significant contribution to the enhancement of peace and security in the region.
He said this when Zambia’s High Commissioner to Botswana and Permanent Representative to SADC, Pamela Chisanga, presented her credentials.
The ceremony was held at the SADC headquarters in Gaborone, Botswana in the boardroom named after Zambia’s founding President, Dr Kenneth David Kaunda, also one of the founding members of the regional grouping.
Mr Magosi emphasised that the focus of SADC was to ensure that its programmes significantly impact the well-being and livelihood of people in the region.
In a statement issued in Lusaka by First Secretary for Press at the Zambian High Commission in Botswana, Julia Malunga, Mr Magosi said the SADC Secretariat stood ready to support all member-states.
Mr Magosi that he was looking forward to working with Ms Chisanga to facilitate the ratification of agreements and protocols under SADC. And Ms Chisanga has reaffirmed the mission’s commitment to facilitating communication and engagement between the SADC Secretariat and Zambia, in view of Zambia’s current role as Chair of the Organ.
She also pledged a more proactive role in supporting implementation of SADC initiatives as well as influencing and mobilising support for SADC initiatives.
Ms Chisanga said the milestones achieved by the SADC were commendable and expressed her anticipation to contribute to establishing a platform for appropriate interaction between its secretariat and accredited member-states representatives in Gaborone.
