PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has commissioned the US$80 million Zambia Breweries PLC expanded plant with a call to the private sector to work closely with the government.

President Hichilema says Government is committed to creating a conducive environment for doing business by enacting policies that support growth.
President Hichilema has assured the private sector of Government’s unwavering support as they set up investments in the country. He said his desire was to see business partnerships that benefitted both the country’s economy and the citizens through job creation. He explained that investments were key in growing the country’s economy as well as in creating the much-needed jobs.
Mr Hichilema was speaking during the commissioning of the Zambian Breweries PLC expanded plant.He said economic growth could only take place if investments were encouraged by initiating prudent policies. Mr Hichilema reiterated that investments were cardinal in creating business opportunities and jobs for small medium businesses. He said the commissioning of the expanded Zambian Breweries was in line with the vision of the government of encouraging investments.
He said economic growth could only be achieved if Government and the private sector worked together for mutual benefits.
Meanwhile, Mr Hichilema has implored Zambia Breweries to continue supporting farmers growing cassava and sorghum through the outgrower scheme.
He explained that farmers in rural areas needed the income to support their agriculture activities. President Hichilema expressed happiness after learning that the Zambian Breweries would introduce a cassava variety that was disease tolerant.
He bemoaned that the high pricing of capital financing was contributing to increased cost of production.
Zambian Breweries PLC Country Director Michelle Kilpin disclosed that the company was the largest brewer and distributor of beer on the Zambian market.
