Sources within Lubambe mine said, JCHX Mine is expected to take over the mine in the next two months.
The sources said the Chinese company is also likely to bring changes in the management structure at Lubambe mine.
The sources said Lubambe mine Chief Executive Officer Timmy Duffy told the employees yesterday that, JCHX Mining Company is about to conclude negotiations with the EMR, the owners of Lubambe.
“The CEO said the Chinese company is taking over in the next two months and likely to bring change in management structures at the mine.
EMR has 80 percent shareholding in the mine and ZCCM-HI 20 percent shares in the mine. The CEO said no benefits will be paid to employees in that it’s just the shareholding which has changed and not the name Lubambe Copper Mine,” the sources said.
The sources said during the meeting, the union expressed sadness and displeasure to the government and the Lubambe Copper Mine management for allowing a Chinese firm to take over the mine.
The sources said the union indicated that the Chinese firm has poor condition of services, poor safety record, bad working culture and no respect for employees.
The sources said the union also indicated that employees want to be given terminal benefits than working for Chinese firm that does not show regard to employees.
