Minister of Science and Technology Felix Mutati said its construction is expected to start next year at the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone.
The minister indicated that this significant development marks a pivotal step towards reinforcing the country’s digital infrastructure and fostering innovation in the region.
“As a direct outcome, substantial investments have flowed into the establishment of a state-of-the-art tier 3 data centre and innovation hub, to be situated in the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone, the commencement of construction is slated for the coming year.
“This significant development marks a pivotal step towards reinforcing Zambia’s digital infrastructure and fostering innovation in the region,” Mr Mutati said.
And Mr Mutati said with the tax incentives and concessions introduced this year to boost digital infrastructure, a collaborative effort between the government and the private sector has successfully extended fibre connectivity to seven of the eight neighbouring countries.
He said the ongoing initiative to link Mozambique to the fibre network is well underway, with completion scheduled before June next year.
Mr Mutati said this strategic move not only underscores Zambia’s position as the digital hub of Southern Africa but also solidifies its standing as the most connected country in Africa through fibre networks.
