Mr Kabuswe said he was concerned and disappointed with the poor workmanship on certain CDF projects by some local contractors in the districts and warned them to improve or else appropriate action would be taken against them, including not giving them contracts on future CDF projects.
Mr Kabuswe was speaking at the weekend when he officially handed over CDF projects which included the recently constructed and completed one by three classroom block at Kakoso combined school, a bridge and road in Lubansa ward as well as the procured grader and compactor at the Chililabombwe Municipal Council (CMC).
Mr Kabuswe said he was disappointed that, with huge sums of money being invested in improving infrastructure development through CDF, some contractors could be exhibiting poor quality works.
The Chililabombwe MP and Minister of Mines and Mineral Development said he was also not happy with the works on the drainage and road in Yotam Muleya ward which was gobbling about K3 million among other projects.
“Am not happy with the poor quality works being exhibited by our local contractors we have engaged in certain CDF projects. Am disappointed and deeply concerned about these poor quality works. Am particularly not happy with the works on the drainage and road in Yotam Muleya ward which was gobbling about K3 million among other projects.
“If such mediocre works continues, local contractors must not blame those overseeing CDF projects when they start engaging contractors from outside the district because the calibre of the work’s some local contractors were offering was unacceptable,” Mr Kabuswe said
Mr Kabuswe said he was not happy with some of the works on certain CDF projects as they were being done with poor quality thus derailing development as resources needed to be put together to re-do the works.
“My his office will not entertain poor quality works and those found wanting risk being back-listed from being engaged in future projects,” he said
He said President Hakainde Hichilema had emphasised the need to engage local people in all CDF projects but that his office would not compromise especially if the locals do not liver quality works
And Chililabombwe District Commissioner Precious Njekwa also empathised the need to maintain quality works on all CDF project so that members of the public can benefit from government decision of increasing the CDF
Ms Njekwa said if the district was to attain development, local contractors need to adhere to standards set in the execution of projects.
