….as the French government has supported ZANACO Bank with US$52.2m to roll out financial services

FRANCE has given Zambia 23 million Euros grant for various sectors of the economy.

French Minister of Development, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, said the 16 million Euros has been allocated towards national budget, four million Euros towards water and sanitation, 1.5 million Euros towards sustainable management of forest and one million Euros towards mining resource management.
Speaking when she led a French delegation at State House yesterday, Ms Zacharopoulou said the French government has decided to support Zambia after several engagements.
“I have come here with greet news regarding finance and commitment towards supporting Zambia.
An allocation of four million Euros is going towards water services, 16 million Euros towards support of Zambia’s central budget, 1.5 million grant to promote sustainable management of forestry and we also plan to sign a declaration of intent of mining resource management backed by one million Euros,” she said.
And Ms Zacharopoulou said her government has supported ZANACO Bank with about US452.2 million to roll out financial services in the country.
She also indicated that, about 15 French companies are operating in Zambia and have employed about 1, 500 Zambians.
Meanwhile, President Hakainde Hichilema thanked the French government for the support especially towards the country’s national budget.
President Hichilema said the support is a milestone achievement.
He said “When colleagues believe in what you are doing, you must do better, so that it can lead to other things.
And acting Finance and National Planning Minister Felix Mutati said the support from the French government sends a positive signal to Zambians that Mr Hichilema is running the economy well.
