The organisation has also called on government to update the nation when it will withdraw the provisional liquidator at the giant mine.
ANDD executive director, Samuel Banda said it is important that the government in the interest of transparency and accountability, state when the court processes will be done as part of the transition process.
Mr Banda said for the country to make progress in the mining sector, Vedanta Resources should quickly move in to take full control of the operations of KCM and make positive economic impact in the country.
“We acknowledge and recognise the efforts that the government has so far made in ensuring that they revamp KCM. However, it is important that the Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Paul Kabuswe should update the nation when exactly are they going to submit the remaining legal framework, withdraw the provisional liquidator at KCM and when they are likely to submit the agreement that government has with Vedanta Resources in the arbitration court in order to speed up the transition process.”
“These contractors and suppliers are looking forward to the return of Vedanta at KCM in order to boost their businesses. It is therefore, important that government quickly start the remaining legal framework to ensure that Vedanta Resources takes full control of KCM,” he said.
