Talks have reached an advanced stage and once concluded the small-scale farmers will export the said tonnage to various neighbouring countries.
And Zambia Rural Agriculture Development Initiative (ZARUDI) said the intention by Government to allow farmers to export maize to neighbouring countries is a plus for the agriculture sector.
ZARUDI Executive Director, Gilbert Mpanga, explained that if Government allows for the exportation of maize, this will help the country earn more foreign exchange.
Mr Mpanga said this will also enable farmers expand their market apart from the local market thereby bringing more revenue in the economy.
He said farmers have a limited market for their produce which is disadvantaging them.
Mr Mpanga said the country is in dire need of foreign exchange to stabilise the local currency and it is important that the move be actualised.
