Dr Chisunka said traditional leaders must be considerate when charging the fees for endorsing forms brought by their subjects so that they can apply for Farming input loans such as fertiliser from the government.
Chief Chisunka confirmed having received reports and calls from some subjects bemoaning exorbitant fees being demanded by traditional leadership before they can clear a person’s form which requires confirming a subject’s land details.
The House of Chiefs Chairperson said his counsel over the concerns is for traditional leaders especially those charging high fees to reasonably reduce to between K20 and K50.
Dr Chisunka said while he appreciates the need for accounting for stationary costs and customary homage, the loan facility targeting poor farmers should be made easy for subjects by charging fairly or nothing at all.
Chief Chisunka who is also Luapula Council of Chiefs Chairperson commended government for the timely farming input distribution to farmers as well as introduction of the loan facility for farming inputs to broaden the number of farmers growing maize in order to increase production.
The traditional leader encouraged his subjects and other ordinary Zambians to utilize the farm input loans prudently. – ZANIS.
