These complaints in most cases are centered around the speed at which Internet Bundles deplete after the customers buy them.
So, we reached out to Airtel Zambia which is one of the telecommunications providers in the country to get insights on this issue and get to understand what causes data to deplete so quickly when accessing the internet.
Airtel Zambia is a provider of technologies and services, giving Zambia an easy and dependable way to connect to the world. The company offers a variety of products and services in the telecommunications sector which can be accessed by a wide range of different audiences depending on their needs.
Now, back to the issue of quick depletion of data bundles, according to the experts from Airtel Zambia, data depletion is one that the company is well acquainted with because they get complaints from people about it once in a while and they explain to them as to what could lead to the fast depletion of internet data bundles.
According to Airtel Zambia, the rate at which data depletes depends on a person’s activities on the internet. For example, a person who is streaming YouTube and one browsing through Facebook will not consume the same amount of data even when they bought the same quantity of data bundles.
They explained this simply means that a person’s activities on the internet are what determines the amount of data that they will use at the end of the day.
For example, if a person spends two hours on the internet watching movies while another person spends two hours simply scrolling Facebook without watching videos, the amount of data that the two people will use cannot be the same because YouTube videos consume more bundles than scrolling through facebook.
“Another factor that people should consider when it comes to data bundle usage is the quality of the videos that they are streaming online because this has a very big impact on the amount of data that a customer will use at the end of it all.” they explained
For example, a video that is being streamed in 1080 pixels will not consume the same bundles as one that is using 320 pixels because the more pixels the clearer the videos, and the clearer the videos, the more bundles the video will consume, so better resolution means more data bundle usage.
Talking of better resolution, Airtel Zambia said one thing that is common is the fact that as the latest phones are coming out they come with improvements in terms of their functions and apps.
This also contributes to the amount of data that a person will be using. For example, a phone will come automatically set to view the highest quality of a video, and the consequences of this will be that it will consume more bundles than other regular phones, which gets back to the same issue, which is the better the quality the more bundles will be used and the quicker for them to finish.
According to Airtel Zambia, another contributor to people’s data depleting fast is the fact that the network providers are now providing top-notch customer services and products because of massive investments that have been put in hence the network is clearer and faster as a result customers are able to stream clear videos throughout their whole experience encouraging them to watch and enjoy more without realizing that they are spending so much time on the internet hence not realizing how much bundles they are using.
Airtel Zambia says they have not changed anything in terms of the data volume that they are offering their customers.
If a person was buying 2GB at K10 last year they are still accessing 2GB at K10 but the only thing that has improved is the quality of service because of the massive investments that they have put in.
