RESIDENTS of Masongo village in Shiwang’andu have cried out to Government that they are in dire need of farming inputs fearing that hunger will be severe should fertilizer and seed not be delivered on time.

The residents have stated that looking at how things are unfolding, even the 2023/2024 farming season may see farmers sharing farming inputs as it was the previous season.
This came to light during a community meeting organised by Chimpundu ward councillor Sylvester Musonda at Masongo Primary School.
Mr Gabriel Chileshe, a peasant farmer, complained that without shame, Shiwang’andu District Commissioner Maureen Bwembya last week held a meeting and engaged some people to speak ill of the Member of Parliament Stephen Kampyongo without addressing the real issues the people were faced with.
Mr. Chileshe said during the said meeting, those raising real issues were not given chance to speak, stating that the challenges in the agriculture sector were a time bomb waiting to explode.
He said what the people wanted was development and ideas on how they would be supported in the agriculture sector unlike what Ms. Bwembya went to do in the area.
“To be honest, the hunger that is looming will be severe. And what we need from leaders are solutions unlike what we saw last week. Councillor, please if it’s possible convey this message to our MP. We know he is the only one who can speak for us and because he has proved himself to work for the people,” Mr. Chileshe said.
And Modester Chanda said it was not a secret that Masongo village was not the same looking at how much work Mr. Kampyongo had done in the area since he became a lawmaker.
Meanwhile, Chimpundu Ward councillor Mr. Musonda, said Mr. Kampyongo was doing his best to work for the people.
Mr. Musonda said despite being harassed in many ways by the current regime, Mr. Kampyongo had not forgotten about his people as he had always taken time to visit them.
“It was just the other month you heard that Hon Kampyongo was in the constituency, I was with him at Ilondola. He has still continued to work for the people, sometimes he even uses his personal resources to do projects in the constituency. Don’t stop praying for him because he means well for this constituency,” he said.
