Mr Mulenga said the money which the water utility company was owed in unpaid water was adversely affecting its efforts in improving service delivery for the people in the communities
Mr Mulenga was speaking yesterday when the utility company launched a promotion dubbed Twendele Pamo promotion aimed at helping customer’s with outstanding debt to get reconnected to get services. Mr Mulenga said the company was concerned with the poor payment culture among individual households in low-cost areas and was hoping they would take advantage of the promotion to settle the huge bills owed to the water utility company. “We decided to come up with this promotion so that our customers can take advantage of it to settle the huge bills owed to the water utility company. NWSC is owed more than K244 million in unpaid water bills in low cost areas, this is impacting on our resolve to improve service delivery to communities,” Mr Mulenga said
Mr Mulenga said the failure to pay water bills was mainly as a result of inability and unwillingness to pay due to their economic status and poor services among others.
Mr Mulenga said during the promotion which would run for three months customers who were disconnected would be allowed to pay an initial minimum deposit of K300 and thereafter negotiate a flexible payment plan.
