…Warriors, Nkwazi draw as Blades bask in first win

KITWE giants Nkana FC have maintained bottom position on the MTN/FAZ Super League table after failing to beat fellow strugglers Trident FC in a Week-6 fixture played yesterday at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka.
Nkana were looking for their first win of the season after four defeats and one draw in the first five games.
Despite having created numerous chances in the match against Trident, who are also winless, the Kitwe outfit led by Ian Bakala couldn’t find their scoring boots as Trident held on to pick their third draw of the season.
“The boys played well despite not getting a win. We could have won the game in the first half just that the players seem to be under pressure because we are yet to win and we just have to work extra hard so that we can have a winning mentality,” Bakala said in an interview after the final whistle.
Nkana will meet “Mighty” Mufulira Wanderers in the next fixture and Bakala is confident the match will present “Kalampa” the needed turning point.
“We are going to Mufulira to get a victory though we have been struggling,” Bakala said.
After six games played so far, Nkana have only scored one goal in six games and have two points collected from two stalemates.
Meanwhile, Konkola Blades picked their first win of the season after shocking Kansanshi Dynamos 1-0 at Nchanga Stadium in Chingola.
Chanda Mushili’s 57th minute goal handed Blades the three points which propelled them to 13th on the Super League table with six points.
At the Godfrey “Ucar” Chitalu Stadium in Kabwe, Mwamba Mutombo’s equaliser rescued Kabwe Warriors from a home loss as they held Nkwazi to a 1-1 stalemate.
After a goalless first half, Isaac Ngoma had given Nkwazi the lead eight minutes before the hour mark.
However, Mutombo’s equaliser eight minutes later ensured that Warriors remained unbeaten in the last five games and sit on sixth position on the log with nine points, on par with seventh-placed Nkwazi who are now winless in the last four games having picked three draws and one defeat.
