PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Kamfinsa Member of Parliament Christopher Kang’ombe has challenged the UPND government to make public the consent judgement over the giant Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) following its decision to settle the matter out of court with Vedanta Resources Plc.

Mr Kang’ombe said the consent judgement will clearly spell out what has been agreed by the government and Vedanta Resources Plc regarding how it will recapitalise the mine, how long it has been given in terms of tax holiday and other relevant issues relating to employees, suppliers and contractors.
A consent judgement (also known as a consent decree or a consent order) is a judgement made by a judge with the consent of all the parties. It is not strictly a judgement, but rather a settlement agreement approved by the court.
In an interview yesterday, Mr Kang’ombe said the consent judgement was more important and authentic than what President Hakainde Hichilema and Mines and Mineral Development Minister Paul Kabuswe have been saying about Vedanta Resources Plc.
He said government should engage in extensive consultations, explore alternative solutions and prioritise policies that pave way to the path to economic freedom for the majority poverty-stricken Zambians.
