ZANIS reports that the project that is being implemented in Milanzi Constituency of the district is seeking to increase citizen participation in the democratic processes of the constituency and the country at large.
Speaking during the project’s baseline survey with the media, ACA Programmes Manager Jimmy Maliseni said the initiative was party of the deepening democracy facility that helps provide the voice of the citizen. “This initiative is part of the deepening democracy facility which is funded by Foreign and CommonWealth Development Office (FCDO) which was previously known as the commonwealth office under the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the government of the United Kingdom. So what we are doing with the Deepening Democracy Project is to essentially try and increase the participation in the democratic processes by citizens. So we want to see more citizens participating in the democratic processes in the country,” Mr Maliseni said.
Mr Maliseni said the project had a unique focus that looked at the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) vis-à-vis the public.
He explained that the project was undertaking the baseline study to identify the gaps that exist within the constituency. The ACA’s component of the wider Deepening Democracy Project is a pilot project being implemented in Milanzi Constituency of Katete District in Eastern Province and Mazabuka Central in Mazabuka District of Southern Province.
The pilot project, which is expected to run till February 2024, is co-implemented by the ACA, Dikonia, BBC Media Action and other partners.
