THE Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has stocked up adequate medical supplies in preparedness for the rainy season.

According to a statement by Bradley Chingobe Senior Manager Public Relations ZAMMSA was alive to the fact that during the rainy season the country posts an increased number of Diarrhea and related conditions during this period. He said it was on this premise that they had secured adequate stock of critical medicines and medical supplies that were key in the management and treatment of diarrhoea and related conditions.
“We have in stock more than enough quantities of intravenous (IV) fluids, Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) and Zinc Sulphate. It’s important to note that ORS and Zinc Sulphate are the first line of treatment for diarrhoea while IV fluids are cardinal in the management and treatment of severe cases,” he said. Mr. Chingobe said the medicines and IV fluids were forecasted to last for over six months.
He therefore said in the unfortunate case of an outbreak ZMMSA could safely say that the country was adequately covered.
“More still, ZAMMSA has secured adequate amounts of Chlorine and disinfectants that will ensure that all facilities are fully disinfected,” he said.
Mr. Chingobe said ZAMMSA had since distributed the commodities to health facilities across the country and had also strategically positioned buffer stock at regional hubs to ensure uninterrupted
