COMMONWEALTH gold medallist Muzala Samukonga has finally received the two-bedroom house promised by Heritage Home Construction Limited.
The house worth K850, 000 in Lilayi was promised to Muzala in August last year after he scooped gold at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Speaking during the presentation of the house, Minister of Sports, Youth and Arts Elvis Nkandu hailed Heritage Home Construction for delivering the promised house.
Nkandu is hopeful that the gesture by Heritage Home Construction will inspire Samukonga to continue working hard.
“I hope that this gesture will motivate him to even greater heights in his sporting career. I also hope that other athletes will also be motivated in their various sporting fields to excel and bring glory and medals to the country,” Nkandu said.
He encouraged all youths to engage in sport as it is a lucrative sector for job creation and empowerment opportunities.
“I therefore, encourage every athlete and sports person out there that the sky is the limit in whatever sport we are engaged in and that we should aim to not only please our countrymen but also ourselves as we are our own greatest critic and greatest motivator,” Nkandu said.
Heritage Home Construction Limited CEO Stella Chemba said Samukonga deserved the recognition for being a role model to aspiring athletes.
Chemba urged Samukonga to continue working hard to inspire more athletes to achieve great things.
Zambia Athletics (ZA) president Elias Mpondela applauded Government and Heritage Home Construction for motivating the 400 meters sprinter with a house.
Mpondela urged Samukonga to remain disciplined and continue working hard to maintain his championship.
Meanwhile, Samukonga who couldn’t stop himself from dropping tears of joy commended Heritage Home Construction for changing his life completely.
Samukonga also hailed the Ministry of Sports and the ZA leadership led by Mpondela for supporting his athletics career.
