IN an effort to effectively serve the interests of miners and ensure that mineral resources benefit the respective countries in Africa, the Mine workers Union of Zambia (MUZ) and the General Union of Workers in Mines and Quarries and the Navigations (GUWMQN) of Egypt are set to form a federation of African mine workers unions

MUZ President Joseph Chewe and GUWMQN) President Mohammed Samara said the two unions were planning to form a federation that would serve the interests of miners and also benefit African countries which have mineral resources through adding value to the minerals as opposed to exporting raw materials to European countries Mr Chewe was speaking yesterday at Katilungu House in Kitwe when MUZ hosted a delegation of GUWMQN who had visited Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) and Manganese Mines in Luapula Province before holding a press briefing to announce their intentions to form African Federation of mine workers unions to serve the interests of miners and Africa’s mineral resources
And GUWMQN President Mohammed Samara said the federation would soon establish structures across Africa in order to improve the living standards of the workers.
