THE Millers Association of Zambia has urged Government to quickly clear the 2, 500 deficit of extension officers across the country as promised last year to improve agricultural output.

MAZ President Andrew Chintala says there is need for Government through the Ministry of Agriculture to expedite the recruitment of extension officers especially that funds have been provided for in the current budget.
The country has about 1, 500 extension officers while it needs about 4, 000 thereby creating a deficit of 2, 500.
Mr. Chintala says this shows that that the issue is urgent especially that the country is a farming nation.
Mr. Chintala says the ministry should ensure that recruitment of extension officers should be done annually to ensure quality extension service provision and improve on productivity in the agriculture sector.
