SAFADA Chief Executive Officer Boyd Moobwe says farmers have been battling with the high cost of fertiliser, which has seen farmers fail to procure adequate quantities resulting in a drop in crop production. Mr. Moobwe says the reduction in agricultural produce has had a knock-on effect on the pricing of agricultural products.
He notes that organic fertiliser production, which will service local farmers and contribute towards providing cheaper and readily available fertiliser for the agricultural sector, is highly commendable.
Mr. Moobwe has equally expressed concern over the current proceedings in the procurement and distribution of farm inputs which will affect the maize production process again.
The Zambia Environmental Management Agency announced that it has approved two organic fertiliser blending plants in Chilanga district, which projects are valued at US$3 million.
The organic fertiliser plants are intended to help mitigate the high cost of fertilisers the country is currently experiencing.
