ZAMBIA will next month start producing ethanol blended fuel as a measure for the country to have cheaper fuel the way some neighbouring countries have been doing, Director and Spokesperson at the Ministry of Information and Media Thabo Kawana has revealed.

And Government says the country may revert to quarterly review pump price mechanism.
Mr. Kawana has said Zambia will start offering both blended fuel, which will be cheaper, and unblended, which will be slightly expensive on the market. He said it would be up to the motorist to see which type of fuel they preferred to use.
He said Minister of Energy Peter Kapala has already prepared a Cabinet Memo seeking Cabinet approval in principle for the country to start offering alternative blended fuel.
“We will have blended fuel in in the country in October going into November. The fuel will be on the market,” he said.
Mr. Kawana said the reason most motorists in border areas cross over to the neigbouring to buy fuel is because blended fuel is much cheaper.
And Mr. Kawana has said the country may revert to quarterly review of pump prices of fuel once the full storage capacity of fuel was restored.
Mr. Kawana said currently, the country has the storage capacity of three months but unable to fill the value to capacity because the pipe line that transports fuel is not operating at 100 percent volume.
He said Government was contemplating increasing the storage capacity to six months once a new pipeline that will be transporting petrol and Kerosene is completed.
Mr. Kawana said the new pipeline which would be completed in two years would enable Zambia to start reviewing pump prices of fuel every after six months.
He said this when he featured on a live programme on Prime TV.
