VICE-PRESIDENT Mutale Nalumango has disclosed that some individuals within the government did not adhere to President Hakainde Hichilema‘s directive not to buy expensive vehicles and went ahead to purchase luxurious Toyota VX Land Cruisers for themselves.
Ms Nalumango told Parliament during the 45 minutes Vice-President’s question time that the United Party for National Development (UPND) campaigned on the basis that under its administration, Government would use vehicles that are not expensive to acquire and maintain.
“Colleagues, this is the way the President (Mr Hichilema) gave the directive that nobody purchases but we have a system and the system of Government moves too slowly. Some people did not adhere and they did purchase VX vehicles.

“This does not go well with prudent management of national resources because it is too expensive and therefore, for those who got, particularly after coming into office, indeed they must dispose of them and that will be done,” Ms Nalumango said.
The Vice-President said Government was working out modalities of disposing of the Toyota VX Land Cruisers.
She said Government was determined to save financial resources to enhance Constituency Development Fund (CDF), free education and construction of road infrastructure in all parts of the country.
“That is what we are doing and that is why we are saying that for now, no such expensive vehicles. They (Toyota VX Land Cruisers) will be disposed of after the modalities are worked out,” Ms Nalumango said.
She was responding to Bwacha Member of Parliament, Sydney Mushanga (PF) who wanted to know when the VXs will be sold and who gave the directive or the authority to procure the vehicles after August 12, 2021. In his question, Mr Mushanga said the people of Bwacha and the many citizens out there wanted to know when the directive by President Hichilema to dispose of the Toyota VX Land Cruisers will be fulfilled through the Ministry of Finance and National Planning.
