CHIEF Muyombe of the Tumbuka people of Mafinga District says he is impressed with climate resilient infrastructure for sustainable livelihoods being constructed in his chiefdom under the TRALARD Project.
The traditional leader said the resilient infrastructure being constructed such as the bulking center and crossing points would not only change the face of his chiefdom but also promote the sustainable livelihoods of the people.
He noted with happiness that the projects have also created employment to the local people.
“Those infrastructure that TRALARD is building are aimed at improving the welfare of the people. I know people will soon start smiling,” Chief Muyombe said.
And a civic leader where Muyombe Bulking Centers is being constructed says she is happy that the people in her ward have already started benefiting from the project through provision of job opportunities.
Tiba Chirwa who is Kalanga Ward Councilor in Muyombe Chiefdom said she was a happy woman because her area is about to change for the better, thanks to TRALARD.
Ms. Chirwa noted that apart from offering employment to the local people in her ward during construction, once completed, the bulking center is also expected to boost the economic activities in the area.
She said, the project is expected to bring social and economic benefits not only in Muyombe but also in the surrounding districts as it will be a center of trade.
Ms. Chirwa further commended TRALARD for its commitment to promoting gender equality through an inclusive employment opportunities for career advancement.
She said it was commendable that some women were employed as bricklayers to build the bulking center.
Meanwhile, TRALARD District Operations Officer Clement Ntambo stated that the construction of a bulking centers and three crossing points at a tune of K 8,291,344 and K10, 895,268 respectively was aimed at promoting diversity livelihoods.
Mr. Ntambo explained that the bulking center would act as a logistical hub, allowing convenient and efficient storage of farm produce.
He says that the bulking centers would address the issue of volume of that is often an obstacle for trade with larger buyers.
By accumulating larger volumes of produce, he said, the centers would leverage negotiating higher prices and consequently increase the profits of contributing farmers.
