FORMER Defence Permanent Secretary in the Patriotic Front (PF) administration Sturdy Mwale was on Wednesday afternoon picked and detained by police.
The plain clothed police officers who were heavily armed picked Mr Mwale and took him to Balmoral Police Post in Chilanga where he was detained.
His lawyer, Leon Lemba confirmed the detention, but could not give details why he is in police custody.
“He was picked up by police yesterday around 17 hours and detained at Balmoral Police post. We have not been informed why. They have refused to give us reasons. But as for now he has been taken to Force Headquarters where a possible arrest will be affected,” he said.
Meanwhile by press time Zambia Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale said that Mr Mwale had been moved to headquarters and that they were just waiting for them to finalise on procedure before he could be charged.
He said he could not give the reasons why he was picked but that he could confirm that Mr Mwale was detained.
“I cannot give you the details right now because we have not concluded formalities but I can confirm that he was actually detained,” he said.
