KENYAN Agriculture minister Mithika Linthuri has said that his country would be exporting maize from Zambia in a bid to reduce the deficit in his country.
Mr Linthuri said the cost of growing maize in Zambia was cheap and that was why he had resorted to export maize from Zambia.
He said no Kenyan would sleep hungry because his government was closely working with their Zambian counterparts to ensure that the country was food secure.
Mr Linthuri said the Zambian government had also given land to Kenya to grow maize.

“I’m getting US$300 per tonne and that this what I’m getting from the Zambian government and I have given permits for free to bring the maize,” he said.
Meanwhile, Zambia Republican Party (ZRP) president Wright Musoma said it was illogical for Government to export maize when the country was facing a crisis.
Mr Musoma said the issue was bad and that there was no need for Government to do the opposite when the general citizenry was suffering..
He also challenged Government to come out in the open over the minister’s statements because it was serious and the people needed to know.
