THABO Kawana says President Hakainde Hichilema never promised to reduce the price of mealie meal to as low as K50 while in opposition and has pledged a K200, 000 reward to any Zambian or journalist who is going to produce a video or audio of the head of State making such a promise.
Mr Kawana, the Ministry of Information and Media Director and Spokesperson has said at no time did President Hichilema promise Zambians that he would upon becoming president reduce the price of a 25kg bag of mealie meal to K50.

In his write-up which he shared on Dynamic Analysis Zambia Whatsapp group on Friday, Mr. Kawana has challenged people claiming that President Hichilema promised to reduce the price of mealie meal to instead produce what he termed unequivocal evidence and a reward of K200,000 would be given.
Mr. Kawana has pledged that he would personally rally a personal reward from partners to be awarded to any person who shall produce a video clip or an audio of President Hichilema in opposition promising to bring down the price of mealie meal to K50.
Mr. Kawana believes that no individual would be able to produce such evidence as there were no records because no such promise was ever made by the President in opposition at the time.
He said he was ready to lobby for as much K200, 000 for any person, journalist or media house that would produce such an audio or video.
Mr. Kawana said it was time to put the propaganda narrative that President Hichilema promised to reduce the price of mealie meal to K50 to rest because according to him, it was as tired and fake as the privatisation story.
