Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Elijah Muchima has expressed worry that some traditional leaders in Southern Province are quarrelling over the boundaries of their chiefdoms.
Mr Muchima said he was aware of concerns that the 1958 chiefdom map boundaries had brought confusion among traditional leaders.
During an engagement meeting held in Livingstone last week, some chiefs rejected the 1958 map on grounds that it had brought confusion among traditional leaders. Responding to Livingstone District Commissioner Eunice Nawa when he paid a courtesy call on her on Thursday, Mr Muchima said that he was aware that the map had caused tension among traditional leaders.
Mr Muchima said the matter regarding the 1958 map involved his ministry and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development hence the ongoing sensitization meetings with traditional leaders countrywide. The Minister advised chiefs not to fight because the new dawn was a listening government and consultations were ongoing.
Ms Nawa had earlier informed Mr Muchima that some chiefs were not happy with the map and had rejected it.
Meanwhile, Government has released K2.6 million Land Development Fund will be used to work on two critical bridges in Mulala and Sakubita settlement area.
This came to light during a meeting held at the Livingstone City Council chambers.
