It is mind boggling for the Road Development Agency (RDA) to start tarring the road that leads to President Hakainde Hichilema’s private residence when he pledged that he will not waste tax payer’s money, former Defence minister George Mpombo has said.

Mr Mpombo said he did not understand why colossal tax payers’ money could be spent on such projects when less could be spent on refurbishing State House the official residence of the republican president.
He said President Hichilema was the only president in the world who was residing in his private residence.
Dr Mpombo said the move was illegal and pure abuse of authority as Community House was not a government house but a private residence.
“President Hichilema claimed he will not move to State House because the money meant to renovate Nkwazi house, the official residence of the President should be channeled to other areas but alas he was spending colossal amounts on a daily basis,” he said.
He said renovation of Nkwazi house would have cost not more than K300,000 but construction of the road will cost not less than US$500,000.
