The residents gave Mr Kalaba a warm welcome when he made an impromptu stop at Tambalala Market.
They said they were happy that he had decided to visit their poor community and described him as a humble leader. Mr Kalaba, who was dressed in casual attire, made a brief stopover at the market and interacted with traders, customers and passersby.
“Ba [Mr] Kalaba, we’re very happy to see you. Kanshi mulafika na kuno [so, you also visit such places as this]?” an old woman shouted as she greeted him.
One youth assured Mr Kalaba that he and his friends were ready to work with him and his party to improve their lives.
He said life had become very hard in the last one year and that people were putting their hope in the former minister of Foreign Affairs to come and make things better for them.
The marketeers and stall owners complained about the difficulties they had been facing in accessing fertiliser and other farm inputs, and how hard life had become.
Mr Kalaba thanked the residents for the love they had showered on him and the confidence they were showing in him.
“I am humbled by your love and the confidence you have shown in me. I am assuring you that I will not take your support for granted. I will not disappoint you,” he said.
An old woman accosted Mr Kalaba and showed him the Citizens First symbol of divine favour and promised to vote for him in 2026.
