THE UPND administration was not ready to employ the over 30, 000 teachers but did so to make a name during the AU summit and this is the reason why some of them have not been paid since they were employed three months ago, National Democratic Congress leader Saboi Imboela has said.
Investigations done by the Daily Nation have revealed that the teachers who have not been paid are not on payroll because the government does not have enough money to pay them. Some have only been receiving pay slips for the last three months.
But Education Minister Douglas Syakalima was recently quoted in the media saying that the delayed payment of salaries for some newly recruited teachers was because the money has been bouncing back due to wrong credentials that were submitted to the office of the human resource in their respective districts.
However, the affected teachers who were enraged by Mr. Syakalima’s statement which they said was not true have threatened to protest if they were not put on payroll because they have been taken for granted by concealing the truth and instead asked to be patient.
