ZAMBIA National Womens team coach Bruce Mwape has described the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup draws as fair after Zambia was pitted in Group C alongside Spain, Japan and Costa Rica.
Mwape said time has come for Zambia to show that they can play any team in the World after gaining experience from tournaments like the Olympic Games where Zambia played big teams like the Netherlands.
Speaking after the draws held yesterday in Auckland, Mwape said there is nothing complicated about the draws which pared Zambia with 2011 champions Japan.
“It’s a fair draw, there is nothing which is complicated because it is not the first time we will be playing in a tournament like this one so each tournament you expect to meet big teams,” Mwape said.
“And like I normally say, if you want to be champions you have to beat the best so this is a time to show the world that we can play any team in the world,” he added.
Meanwhile host New Zealand and Australia will compete in Group A and B respectively.
New Zealand will compete with Norway, Switzerland and Philippines in Group A while Australia has Canada, Ireland and Switzerland.
England, China and Denmark will compete in Group D while, Group E has USA, Netherlands and Vietnam.
Group F has France, Brazil and Jamaica Sweden, Italy and Argentina will compete in Group G. Group H has Germany, Korea Republic and Columbia.
The 32 team 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup will run from July 20 to August 20 in Australia and New Zealand.
