President Hakainde Hichilema has paid tribute to freedom fighter and urged Zambians to protect and preserve the peace that they fought for.
The President said in a televised national address last night on the eve of Zambia’s independence day, that all Zambians should be proud of what the forefathers and mothers did to gain the freedom that is enjoyed today.
He also urged every Zambian to do their part to contribute to maintain the peace in the country and national development.
He said the country should continue producing more for domestic consumption and export.
Mr Hichilema also paid tribute to the forefathers who fought for independence and ensured that the country is liberated from the shackles of colonialism.
He said the freedom fighters put the interest of the country before theirs and laid a strong foundation for the social economic development of the country
President Hichilema said this year’s theme resonates well with the country’s vision for a united and prosperous Zambia.
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to continue providing a conducive environment for social economic development. Mr Hichilema also said his government is committed to improving the wellbeing of all citizens by providing quality health care, free education, social protection and ensuring national and household food security.
