THE move by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to use wrongly dated ballot papers is a sign that the whole thing was a well scripted plan meant to hound out Bowman Lusambo and Joseph Malanji, Zambia Republican Party (ZRP) President Wright Musoma has said.
Mr Musoma said the move by ECZ to use ballot papers dated September 15 was because they had already decided that Mr Malanji and Mr Lusambo should not appear on the ballot. He said that President Hakainde Hichilema had exerted pressure on the Judiciary and ECZ to ensure that they followed what the UPND government wanted.
He however said that the trajectory at which they were moving was very dangerous and that if they were not careful it would backfire terribly.
Mr Musoma said that the court cases were just a formality as the institutions like ECZ already knew the outcome that was why they had even printed ballot papers that did not have the two Patriotic Front candidates.
He said it was shocking that institutions like the police were being used by the UPND but said power was not in perpetuity and would one day vanish. Mr Musoma said that the UPND was committing suicide and if not lucky this would backfire terribly on them.
Meanwhile voter apathy has characterised the two by elections as people have shunned the elections in protest . A check at most polling stations found a low voter turnout with less than 10 people in some places by mid morning.
