THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) should move in and look into the matter where vice president Mutale Nalumango donated relief food and K1000 to Kapalala Market victims 20 days before the Kabushi parliamentary elections, former member of Parliament Bowman Lusambo has said.
Mr Lusambo, whose seat was nullified but has been readopted together with Mr Joe Malanji in Kwacha to contest on the PF ticket, said that the relevant authorities needed to look into the matter because his seat was nullified on the premise that he donated money to church groups.
He said this was a similar case because the Vice President was aware that the elections would be held in less than three weeks and the money and relief food had the capacity to influence the voting pattern in the area
“It is wrong for the vice president and the UPND to engage in such activities because we are all aware that this was a campaign strategy that is why we are calling for the ACC and other stakeholders to move in and investigate this matter,” Mr Lusambo said.
Mr Lusambo said that it was clear that even institutions like ACC were treating certain people with kids gloves while others were being dealt with iron fists.
He said that his nullification was similar to what was happening with the Kapalala market and that it cost him his seat therefore the same law should apply to him as well.
Mr Lusambo said that they had for some time appealed to the government to have the market refurbished but that they had not done so which resulted in the of the market being burnt again.
Meanwhile the PF has said that it had received and deliberated upon the report of the General Conference Preparation and Planning Committee and has resolved to invite presidential candidates to lodge in expression of interest to stand for the position of Party Presidency at the forthcoming General Conference.
The Secretariat shall receive expression of letters of interest starting from 1st September, 2022. The closing date for receiving applications has been set to 31st October, 2022.
The party has pegged applications at a non-refundable application fee of K200, 000 for male applicants and K100, 000 for female applicants.
